The single we chose to represent this album is Date Night. With Clem having a rural upbringing, possibly raised by wolves, it was thought that Date Night touches on the love he feels for the farmer and the land. It’s a tribute to the hard work, long hours and constant threat of debt overload that the modern farmer faces. A new generation of people that put food on our table have had to figure out how to make it work. For us and for them. Sometimes
“it’s date night in the combine, cutting corn by the tractor lights, it’s date night in the combine, worth more than all the fights. We’ve had our fun working all night long.”
Burke Carroll on pedal steel guitar captures the feel of Clem’s classic country roots.
Cheers to farm families.
lyrics
Verse 1
Pushing rows of dirt, through the night in a tractor cab
We always said we’d make it, or make the best of what we had
It’s been hard work at night, and longer through the day
But baby and I we did it, we had to find a way
Chorus
It’s date night in the combine
Cutting corn by the tractor lights
It’s date night in the combine
Worth more than all the fights
We’ve had our fun, working all night long
Verse 2
The bank don’t care a bit, about how hard we work
They don’t listen to excuses, about the weather or poor dirt
Just make sure the money, is sitting in the vault
Or they’ll make sure the loans, all go into default
Chorus
It’s date night in the combine
Cutting corn by the tractor lights
It’s date night in the combine
Worth more than all the fights
We’ve had our fun, working all night long
Bridge
It wasn’t a good Year, for the crops out in the field
The wheat blew down, the soy burnt up and the corn it didn’t yield
It wasn’t hard to stay in love, even when the barn burned down
I knew I’d still be holding you, many years from now
Chorus
It’s date night in the combine
Cutting corn by the tractor lights
It’s date night in the combine
Worth more than all the fights
We’ve had our fun, working all night long

Howdy, my name’s Clem Chesterfield and I’m from Kingston, Ontario, Canada. I sing and write songs that some folks say
sounds like Old Time Country & Western music. I tip my dusty ole hat to Cowboys and Rebels and everyone that might be an Outlaw by Nature, ya’ll are the true heroes of the Trail I call Life....more
