The record closes off with a modern day anthem for proud hosers everywhere. I’m Canadian is the quintessential Everyman viewpoint with deep rural roots! It starts off with some fun about our American friends loving country music and “getting it right”, most of the time... Like all good Canuks Clem doesn’t mind poking fun at himself doing things like “gettin’ lit up” and “stretchin’ out some guts” at the hunting camp. But when it comes to country music there may be a dispute a’ boiling over regarding where it all came from. See we got “Wilf Carter, Hank Snow and Shania’s got some fans...” There’s a powerful message that Clem hopes doesn’t get missed in all the fun. It’s this;
“If we’re looking for truth or reconciled ways, it’s the First Nations we must ask”
“Canadian Shield, friends that are real, that’s what I’m looking fer,
I’m Canadian that’s fer sure”
Can I get a Yee Haw!
lyrics
Verse 1
Rednecks love old time country
While Sitting round their town
Drinking Whiskey, playing cards
Basically getting down
They love their wives, love their trucks
Love their way of life
And when they make America Great
We’ll know they got it right!
Chorus
I’m so proud to be Canadian
BC Mountain High
Golden waves of wheat
Endless Arctic Sky
Canadian Shield, friends that are real
That’s what I’m looking fer
I’m Canadian, that’s fer sure
Verse 2
We don’t talk about politics
sitting around the barn
Me and my buddies get lit up
We usually pick guitars
Telling tall tales of things we did
Gets us all riled up
Head out to the hunting camp
Stretch us out some guts
Chorus
I’m so proud to be Canadian
BC Mountain High
Golden waves of wheat
Endless Arctic Sky
Canadian Shield, friends that are real
That’s what I’m looking fer
I’m Canadian, that’s fer sure
Verse 3
I’ve heard Country music
came from way down south
I’d prolly like to differ
Some say I’ve got a. Big mouth 👄
I’d kindly like to point ya’ll
to a couple Canadian Bands
Like Wilf Carter, Hank Snow & Shania’s got some fans!
Chorus
Verse 4
Don’t think I meant to forget Quebec
And our Maritime friends
And The folks I hang out with
Would like to make amends
Fer so many things we know were wrong
From the Present to the past,
If we’re looking fer truth or reconciled ways
It’s The First Nations we should ask
Chorus
I’m so proud to be Canadian
BC Mountain High
Golden waves of wheat
Endless Arctic Sky
Canadian Shield, friends that are real
That’s what I’m looking fer
I’m Canadian, that’s fer sure

Howdy, my name’s Clem Chesterfield and I’m from Kingston, Ontario, Canada. I sing and write songs that some folks say
sounds like Old Time Country & Western music. I tip my dusty ole hat to Cowboys and Rebels and everyone that might be an Outlaw by Nature, ya’ll are the true heroes of the Trail I call Life....more
