about

How do lures for fishing relate to love, one might ask? Clem likes to tie everything to love as a basic starting point. In Lures On The Wall there’s a definite love for the environment which is pointed out with lines like
“trawlers draggin’ ocean floors is something I ain’t for”,
“And toxic waste and sewage dumps we flush into Great Lakes,
is it gonna be last call for the lures on the wall?”
There’s also a nostalgic longing for simpler times and the loving relationship of the grandfather and grandson connected by fishing in clean water that makes this song relevant with today’s pandemic isolation.

lyrics

Verse 1

In my granddad’s boat house

There’s a history of the lake

A time before we took, all that we could take.

There’s paddles and preservers, rods and old duck calls

But the things that I remember were the lures on the wall

Chorus

We can’t fish this lake no more, they all rolled up on shore.

It looks like it’s last call, for the Lures on the wall

Verse 2

He’d tell stories of the days

When fish were caught by hand

As big as could be brought in, by just one man.

The kind that used to roam the lakes and jump up waterfalls

But Granddad said he caught them with the lures on the wall

Chorus

We can’t fish this lake no more, they all rolled up on shore.

It looks like it’s last call, for the Lures on the wall.

Verse 3

Days Before he passed away

I had the chance to ask

where the fish had gone, why they left no tracks

Pollution and the greed of man and minds that are so small

That’s why it’s last call for the lures on the wall

Last chorus

We can’t fish this lake no more,

They all rolled up on shore

Trawlers dragging ocean floors

Is something I ain’t for

Toxic waste and sewage dumps

We flush into Great Lakes

Is it gonna be last call,

For the Lures on the wall.

Or Is The writing on the wall, ya’ll ya’ll ya’ll

It looks like it’s last call

For the lures on the wall
